About Us

Our Mission

Carolina Freedom Farm's mission is to cultivate healthy produce for our local customers and encourage our communities to consume fresh, natural foods. Fresh produce is healthy and doesn't require as many preservatives, if any. Additionally, fresh produce and God's natural ingredients are more nutritious than most processed foods we typically consume.

The name Carolina Freedom Farm comes from the local farm-to-table mission, the true Freedom that is only found in Jesus Christ, and the Freedom we have in the United States of America. It also comes from the Freedom we're willing to have on the farm to grow and experiment with new crops, growing methods, marketing methods, etc., so that we're always learning, building new relationships, and growing into where God wills us to be at!

Our Story

I had a remarkable Agriculture teacher who served as one of my FFA advisors and taught me various classes, over three years. He noticed my passion for growing produce and recommended that I attempt to cultivate microgreens for my Senior Project. I researched and studied microgreens, growing my first crop in January 2018.

Following this experience, I sought out local restaurants interested in purchasing microgreens. With the assistance of my mom, I located and contacted local chefs in Hickory, NC to arrange meetings. The first chef I spoke with was so impressed with my microgreens that he began purchasing them the following week. He also recommended me to another chef who became a customer. From there, my business grew mainly through word of mouth, as satisfied customers recommended me to other area chefs.

In the fall of 2018, I began pursuing a degree in Horticulture at Wilkes Community College, graduating in May 2020. I then returned in August 2020 to complete a degree in Agribusiness, finally graduating school completely in May 2022. During this period, I managed to sustain my microgreen customer base in Hickory and worked part-time in landscaping and at two nurseries. After graduation, I decided to expand my customer base, which enabled me to pursue full-time farming. Following a leap of faith, I traveled to Mooresville, where I secured my first customer on my initial visit. This chef was a kind-hearted, Christian man, who played a significant role in expanding my business beyond Hickory, recommending me to other establishments in the area.

Thanks to these efforts, I am now fortunate enough to pursue my passion for growing produce full-time. I also enjoy the opportunity to landscape on the side. Throughout my journey, I have been guided by God, whom has ensured that I never took on more than I could handle at any given time. Additionally, I have been blessed with an expanding customer base, which has enabled me to build lasting relationships with those who I meet and have the privilege of doing business with!
